.

Forbes has published its annual rich list for Thailand. It notes that Thailand’s stock exchange has been one of the world’s best performing over the past year and the baht has appreciated, adding to the wealth in dollar terms for many of the already fabulously rich. For all of the political conflict, Forbes says:

Collectively the wealth of the richest 40 advanced 25% to an aggregate $45 billion. Their asset growth is helping these industrialists ramp up investments in operations abroad like never before. The wealth of three-quarters of those on the list rose.

.

.

The top ten on the Forbes list are as follows:

#1 Dhanin Chearavanont, Net Worth $7,400 mil

#2 Chaleo Yoovidhya, Net Worth $5,000 mil

#3 Charoen Sirivadhanabhakdi, Net Worth $4,800 mil

.

Of the top three, Forbes says this:

Dhanin Chearavanont, who owns agribusiness conglomerate, Charoen Pokphand Group, remains in the top spot at $7.4 billion. In second place is the $5 billion fortune of Chaleo Yoovidhya, co-owner of Red Bull energy drinks, closely followed by the $4.8 billion of whiskey king Charoen Sirivadhanbhakdi. The top three have seen their net worths swell over the past year as consumers buy up their wares.

Thaksin Shinawatra has not been left behind either, although he ranks much lower than he would have a decade ago:

… Thaksin Shinawatra (No. 19), rose 53% to $600 million, thanks to a stock split and doubling of share price of his family’s real estate development firm, SC Asset.

One of Thaksin’s enemies, Prachai Leophairatana, is said to be a phoenix story:

rising from the ashes of Asia’s 1997 financial conflagration. Prachai Leophairatana, the former billionaire once known as Thailand’s biggest defaulter, with $3.8 billion in bad loans at his defunct Thai Petrochemical Industries group, is on the rebound. Shares of the remaining part of his empire, cement maker TPI Polene hit a three-year high in August, putting this controversial tycoon on the list at No. 29, with $300 million.

.

.

As usual, Thailand’s richest family, the royal family, is not on the list. Forbes usually includes the king at the top of its world’s richest royals each year.

Even so, there are plenty of royalists in the list. The top four are all known to be generous supporters of royal galas and other pet projects and Prachai was long seen as a funder of anti-Thaksin yellow shirt rallies, led by the People’s Alliance for Democracy.

VIDA Y MILAGROS DEL AS DE LOS MILLONES DE TAILANDIA

 .

LIFE AND MIRACLES OF DHANIN CHEARAVANONT

There has been the claim from an NGO, FTAwatch, that the Charoen Pokphand Group exercises its political power over the Thai government to change the context in the JTEPA. The text in the contract includes tax reduction for chicken, shrimp and frozen seafood that the Charoen Pokphand Group hold the substantive market share, instead of rice product that Thai farmers have competitive advantage.[1]

The Charoen Pokphand Group was the major contributor to the Thais Love Thais party and still maintain a close relationship with the former Prime Minister Thaksin.[6] [2] The founder of the Charoen Pokphand Group is under the investigation of the allegation of corruption in a rubber tree project.

General Prem Tinsulanonda was Chief Advisor to the CP Group. In early 2007, he resigned from his position in order to distance himself from a military junta-led corruption investigation of the CP group. The investigation concerned alleged bid rigging in a para rubber saplings supply contract granted during the Thaksin government while Prem had held his position at the Group.[7]

As noted by the Manager newspaper, UBC cable TV (later named True Vision) cannot be renamed under the concession law; by so doing would break the concession law and the cable TV contract shall terminated. However, the law enforcement in Thailand is weak and the group has high level of political influence. Therefore, authorities in Thailand are relunctant to prosecute the UBC cable TV's concession right holder.

There has been an uproar from TRUE internet users that the TRUE internet provider press the internet bandwidth to limit the use of customers. Number of complaints regarding bandwidth and connectivity have been received regularly caused by the inferior infrastructure of the TRUE internet service providers.

The retail store 7-Eleven did not comply to the new law regarding cigarette advertising. The store continually had displayed cigarette advertisements and were thus reluctant to conform to the new law. As a consequence, the public accused the Charoen Pokphand Group of lacking Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR), and the widely public call for banning of 7-Eleven retail stores emerged.

In 2007, organized farmers accuse the Charoen Pokphand Group of dumping pork in market to put Thai farmers out of business, resulting in very low pork prices.[3]

A new species of fish called Pla-Tub-Tim is sold by the Charoen Pokphand Group. They are sold when young, and have been sterilized by genetical engineering[citation needed]. However, the law in Thailand does not prohibit the production or consumption of genetically modified food.

29 former employees of True corporation sent the petition to the Office of the National Rights Commission of Thailand after having been fired in an attempt to establish a Labour Union [4]. The company claimed that the 29 former employees were incompetent. However, the 29 former-employees accused the company of unfair dismissal and claimed that the company should be subjected to court.
