El pueblo de Carapichaima en la isla de Trinidad es culturalmente muy diverso, aloja una población hindú muy grande, es gente que proviene del este de India. También tiene una población africana significativa. La población vinculada al este de India explica el predominio de religiones como el hinduismo y el Islam en la zona. Esto se evidencia por la gran cantidad de templos y mezquitas ubicadas en la zona. De gran importancia fue la construcción de la gran  estatua de Hanuman, de 85 pies, la más alta del hemisferio occidental, en la locación de Orange field.

Igualmente importante es el templo en Waterloo, que se adentra en el mar. Varias mezquitas salpican la zona y una escuela musulmana está situada cerca de la antigua estación de tren. Varias iglesias atienden a la creciente población cristiana en Carapichaima.

Carapichaima fue un asentamiento de productores de caña de azúcar que se expandió después que el ferrocarril abrió el centro de Trinidad al desarrollo industrial.

Carapichaima ha visto grandes cambios y ha crecido debido a una serie de factores. Estos incluyen la construcción de nuevas escuelas en el área, el establecimiento y la expansión de los negocios en la zona y el aumento del turismo.

Los principales cambios estructurales ocurrieron en años recientes, cuando la principal productora de azúcar, la empresa estatal  "Caroni1975  Ltd." cerró [ fue cerrada por el gobierno el 1 de agosto de 2003 - coincidiendo con la festividad Emancipación Day]

Carapichaima ha sido un punto de parada importante en las celebraciones de Carnaval en Central Trinidad.  El origen del nombre Carapichaima parece ser nativo, amerindio, propio de una población hoy extinta.

The name Carapichaima is said to be derived from the native Amerindian inhabitants who no longer exist in this area.

Carapichaima had been a sugar producing village that expanded after the railroad opened up central Trinidad to development and population movements. Better access to transportation allowed the village to expand into a hub for transportation in central Trinidad and center for commerce for the surrounding areas and rural communities.

Carapichaima has seen major changes and growth due to a number of factors. These include the construction of new schools in the area, the establishment and expansion of business into the area and the increase in tourism into the area.

Major structural changes occurred in the past few years when the main sugar producing, state owned company, Caroni 1975 Ltd., was closed. Caroni (1975) Ltd was closed down by the PNM government on August 1 2003 — Emancipation Day. A significant part of the rural population were employed in the sugar industry. Among some of the major problems plaguing this community is increasing crime rates and difficulty coping with the previously mentioned structural changes.

Culture

The town is very culturally diverse hosting a very large East Indian population as well as a significant African population. The predominantly East Indian population explains the dominance of religions like Hinduism and Islam in the area. This dominance is evident by the amount of Temples and Mosques located in the area. Of major significance was the construction of the tallest(85 feet) Hanuman statue in the Western Hemisphere in Orange Field. Also of significance is the temple in Waterloo, which extends into the sea. Several Mosques dot the area and a Muslim school is centrally located close to the former train station. A number of churches also exist to serve the growing Christian population in Carapichaima. Carapichaima has been a major staging point for Carnival celebrations in Central Trinidad.
